As I am composing and writing this blog post, Pokémon Go is publishing Sinnoh Pokémon onto the streets. I really like different productions for a reason or another but Generation 4 seems to have a particular spot in my heart as that was once I got back to Pokémon following a long hiatus. Specifically, Pokémon Platinum rankings as among my favorite Pokémon games as they took Diamond and Pearl and enhanced everything about those games which makes a top notch classic.
But we are here in order to determine which ones are the best to get a Monotype (or solitary Type) Run that’s a run in which you just catch and train one type of Pokémon. And unfortunately, the Sinnoh games have been either hit or miss. Although more Pokémon have been introduced, Diamond and Pearl simply have 150 Pokémon accessible so that you get some fairly average runs. Platinum thankfully adds 60 greater Pokémon to Sinnoh that makes a lot of types achievable or splendid.
I’ve written previous articles on Monotype Run so check those out. However, for those that are unfamiliar here are some rules.
- Only Pokémon of a specific type could be captured and educated.
- You should catch the first Pokémon available of this kind if your starter doesn’t fit that type (you will then have to discount that beginner ).
- You can train a Pokémon that evolves to said type provided that you do it ASAP.
- No trading allowed
- Just Pokémon caught before Elite Four are all counted.

Without further ado, let’s take a look! A listing of complete team combinations can be found below too.
The Very Greatest Types
Beginning with the top tier I’d say that the Water, Poison, Traditional , Psychic, Steel, and Fighting types are types that you should go for due to their commonality, premature availability and kind coverage. This is the very first time in the show in which Poison can defend itself from Psychic attacks thanks to both Drapion and Stuntank and when you’ve Roserade, Toxicroak, Crobat, along with Tentacruel backing up you you’re in for a good time. Struggling types meanwhile have a near consistent occurrence-rate since you have Chimchar as your own starter and then afterwards you have Medicham, Toxicroak, also, needless to say, Lucario. Water is amazing as standard but this run is unique since you got Empoleon who is incredibly uncommon and amazing. Empoleon’s presence also makes the Sinnoh games a hidden jewel for a metal team, certainly do not miss it .
Meanwhile, the Platinum improves these types further and make Ground and Flying kinds entertaining…thanks tooooo Gliscor! Gliscor’s astonishing type combo improves both of these types and come-on, it is Gliscor, they are the ideal. You Can Also train a Mamoswine for Earth and a Togekiss and Yanmega for Flying.
The Wrong Forms
Like routine, Dragon along with Ice are types that I strongly advocate against. In spite of Platinum these types suffer because of late game accessibility (notably Ice), restricted selections, and bad coverage. Furthermore, if you’re playing Diamond or Pearl, Fire along with Electric are pretty abysmal. Sure, you can capture both kinds early on however there are hardly any of them. Platinum improves their diversity and leaves them doable but it will surely be a walk at the park. Dark types can also be rather dismal if your playing Pearl or Platinum as they’re accessible mid-game at best and there’s a lackluster motto. Luckily, in Diamond, you can grab a Murkrow in Eterna Forest following the first gym.
Spiritomb
If you already skipped ahead and looked through the list, you might have noticed Spiritomb is missing from the Dark and Ghost type lists. That is because he’s one of the toughest non-legendary Pokémon to capture. You want to get that the Old Keystone, that is not too hard, but you also need to speak to 32 people in the underground. They have to be real people too and not NPCs! Thankfully, you’ll only need one other individual with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum to perform it. However, because you will need an additional copy of the sport to be able to get Spiritomb this technically disqualifies Spiritomb based on our rules. Nevertheless, Dark kind still has impartial policy because of Drapion.
